Food Majesty Messages – No. 30

Stress releases cortisol, a stress hormone. This hormone knocks on the liver’s door and encourages it to release glucose into the bloodstream. Therefore, with stress, emotional or physical, you can find yourself with higher glucose levels. The more reactive to stress you are the higher your levels may be. If overeating or eating less desirable foods is one of your mechanisms for dealing with stress, you may find your glucose levels rising as well. There are alternatives to allowing stress to disrupt or overtake your life (ha, am I really saying that—I am one of those overreactors to stress)! Breathe deep, meditate, don’t eat late at night and try your best not to use food as comfort.
